Reflections from US Coaches Soccer Convention, Philadelphia 2026

In January, I had the opportunity to attend the U.S. Soccer Coaches Convention in Philadelphia for the very first time. I went along with several United colleagues excited to see what all the fuss was about. I came home energized, inspired, and with a notebook full of ideas for how we continue to move Colorado United forward.

One of the most valuable aspects of the convention was simply being back in the classroom. Stepping away from the day-to-day realities of the job I do at United to spending time listening, interacting with peers, and reflecting was a reminder of how important it is for everyone to never stop learning.

Some personal highlights

Hearing Nicky Butt from the legendary Manchester United generation (Think David Beckham) speak about elite player mentality and the long haul of commitment over time was a powerful reminder that technical ability alone is never enough at the highest level. His emphasis on habits, resilience, accountability, and daily standards reinforced how critical culture is in any successful development environment. He admitted he was not even a top youth Academy player at an early age. But above made him prosper. Roberto Martínez, head coach of Portugal’s national team, shared his approach to player development; centered on clarity of vision, trust in players, and environments that balance freedom with responsibility. His message around long-term development aligned with performance strongly resonated with the values we strive to live by at Colorado United. As a personal note, I loved his thoughts on not having subs, but impact players (game changers). We don't know what will happen once the game starts, and what we need are strong players, who can come in and change the game, when needed, was his clear statement.

Another highlight was gaining insight into Manchester City’s youth development philosophy, including the coaching frameworks and software systems they use to guide coaches implementing the philosophy with a vast library of lesson plans to support coach and individual player growth. While the scale is obviously different, the principles, clear game models, aligned methodology, and intentional development planning offered ideas that can be meaningfully adapted at our level. And yes we of course have this at United as well. Yet we are currently discussing the 2.0 United version that now may include a few tips from Manchester City

Beyond the classroom, the convention was equally impactful because of the people. Listening in on the latest updates from U.S. Soccer helped provide important context on where the game is headed nationally and how clubs like ours can continue to align with evolving standards.

Spending time with trusted partners of Colorado United from PlayMetrics to Capelli also reinforced the value of being present. These conversations went well beyond products and into collaboration: how we can work smarter, improve communication, and better support our players, families, and staff.

Why This Matters for Colorado United

Attending the U.S. Soccer Coaches Convention made one thing very clear to me: this is an event where Colorado United should be represented every year (Which we are).

When our staff attends, the value comes back to the club in multiple ways. We bring home fresh ideas, new perspectives, and best practices that influence how we coach, how we develop players, and how we operate as an organization. It pushes us to challenge assumptions, stay current, and continue raising our internal standards.

Just as importantly, it allows our staff to connect with peers across the country, learning from others, sharing our own experiences, and ensuring that Colorado United remains part of the broader national conversation around player and club development. These connections ultimately strengthen our club culture and professional growth pathways for our coaches.

Investing in staff education and exposure is an investment in our players. When our coaches grow, our environments improve and that directly impacts the experience of every family in the club.

I returned to Colorado with renewed motivation and a strong belief that continuing to send a Colorado United delegation to this convention each year will help ensure we remain progressive, aligned, and committed to excellence.

An Eight-Day Soccer Experience

Colorado United Soccer partners with Akinji Inc., who prominently partners with the Real Madrid Foundation , to run elite youth soccer clinics and camps in the USA. Since 2023, they have also facilitated international soccer development experiences and training with more than 700 players.

This past November, during Thanksgiving week, four players from our Copa Program — Dom Giardina, Trayse Newton, Sawyer Ysusi, and Tess Murphy — traveled to Madrid, Spain to participate in the Real Madrid Training Experience. This trip was the first as part of our new international travel program and partnership for the Copa Program, which we launched in September 2025.

The players took part in an eight-day soccer experience, which included training sessions at Real Madrid’s training complex (Valdebebas) and playing friendly matches against local Madrid teams. In addition to the soccer activities, the group had the opportunity to explore the city, tour the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, attend a professional match, and experience Spanish culture and cuisine. The trip concluded with a fun day at the Warner Bros. Theme Park, as well as a friendly players vs. coaches match, where parents also joined in the fun.

Our Copa Director, Felipe, traveled with the group and was able to coach and lead several training sessions and games during the trip.

The independence the program offers the players, the great training through both Akinji and the Real Madrid coaches, and the chance to play against international competitors was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. He enjoyed meeting new kids from across the country, the tours of the city, park, training grounds, and stadium, and of course the soccer experience. "We signed our nine year-old son, Trayse up for the Real Madrid experience in November, and brought our family along for the trip. He was joined by his teammate, Dom and his whole family as well. Sawyer and Tess from the 2016 girls team, along with Felipe, also attended." - Participating Family

"The entire week was a tremendous immersion into Spanish culture for all of us. While our two families played tourists together and visited the surrounding cities and sights, the boys were full-on "football professionals." The Akinji philosophy really emphasizes treating the kids like professional footballers - they stay in their own rooms, get three meals each day, two daily trainings or a training and a match, and they mix a couple city tours in as well as a theme park trip at the end. They were placed on a team with mostly same birth-year kids from the US.

They also got four sessions at the Real Madrid training facility with Real's youth coaches. We were able to attend two practices and all the matches (three), against local club teams. The Akinji coaches were very communicative, and quick to deal with issues, and all the parent questions. It's a big undertaking, and very hectic in the beginning especially.

Our families really enjoyed the experience, and the boys didn't want to leave! They really enjoyed being treated like mature, adult footballers, and given that responsibility along with the independence that comes with it. It was also nice having Felipe to help look out for our boys and the girls. Not everything was perfect of course, as with any big trip out of the country, but we were pretty happy we did it! Trayse came back with an even bigger love of soccer than before.

Our Next Trip

The "Northern England Soccer Experience" by Akinji Soccer is scheduled to take place from March 28th to April 5th, 2026. The program provides players with the opportunity to train with professional academy coaches and experience English football culture in Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham.

Colorado United Casino Night Brings the Community Together for an Unforgettable Evening

Colorado United Soccer families, supporters, and staff gathered for an exciting and meaningful evening at the club’s Casino Night on January 24, 2026 , held at Columbine Country Club . The event brought together members of the Colorado United community for a night of fun, connection, and support for an important cause. And well some gambling for prizes:)

Casino Night has quickly become one of the club’s most fun community events, offering parents, coaches, and supporters a chance to step away from the sidelines and enjoy a memorable night together pretending to be at a Casino and playing games for fun.

A Night of Fun, Games, and Community

Guests were welcomed into a lively casino-style atmosphere featuring classic casino games, great food, refreshing drinks, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow Colorado United families and staff .

Throughout the evening, attendees tested their luck at the gaming tables, shared laughs with friends old and new, and celebrated the incredible community that makes Colorado United such a special place. The event created a relaxed setting where parents, coaches, and supporters could strengthen relationships and continue building the strong culture that defines the club.

Beyond the entertainment, Casino Night highlighted the power of the Colorado United community when it comes together in support of a shared mission.

The Strength of the Colorado United Community

One of the most memorable aspects of the evening was the incredible turnout from the Colorado United community. Parents, coaches, and staff came together not only to enjoy a fun night but also to contribute to something bigger than the game itself.

Events like Casino Night reflect what Colorado United is all about — one big United family where we can also have some fun off the fields.

With the success of this year’s Casino Night, Colorado United looks forward to continuing this tradition in the years ahead. The event serves as both a celebration of the club community.

Celebrating National Girls & Women in Sports Day

Celebrating our girl players and female staff!

On February 4, Colorado United Soccer proudly hosted its first annual National Girls & Women in Sports Day celebration at Striker Sports Club, bringing together young athletes, coaches, and role models for an evening dedicated to empowering the next generation of female players.

The free event welcomed U9–U12 girls from across the club for a fun and inspiring open-house style gathering that celebrated the impact of sports on confidence, leadership, and personal growth. The event was planned and let by our female staff and coaches under great leadership by our very own Katie Puchino.

A Night of Soccer, Inspiration, and Community

From the moment players stepped onto the field, the energy in the building reflected exactly what National Girls & Women in Sports Day is all about: opportunity, encouragement, and community.

The evening began with games, skill activities, and fun competitions on and off the field , giving young players the chance to connect with teammates, meet new friends, have some fun, and simply enjoy the game they love. As the event continued, players and families gathered to hear from inspiring voices within the Colorado United community.

Coaches and leaders from across the club shared their experiences in the game and spoke about the lessons sports can teach: resilience, teamwork, confidence, and leadership amongst others. These messages reinforced the club’s mission of developing players for life both on and off the field.

Role Models Leading the Way

One of the most powerful moments of the evening came as young players had the chance to interact with Colorado United Girls Academy players and elite coaches , who served as role models and mentors. Their presence highlighted the strong network of female leadership within the club and demonstrated the pathways available to players as they grow within the game.

For the younger athletes in attendance, meeting these role models helped make the dream of continuing in soccer feel real and attainable.

Celebrating the Power of Girls in Sports

National Girls & Women in Sports Day is celebrated across the United States to honor female athletes and recognize the positive impact sports participation has on girls and women. Since its founding in 1987, the day has highlighted progress toward equality in athletics and the importance of continuing to expand opportunities for girls in sports.

Events like the one hosted by Colorado United help bring that mission to life at the local level.

Through mentorship, shared experiences, and simply celebrating the joy of the game, the evening reminded everyone in attendance that sports are about far more than competition, they are about building confidence, community, and lifelong opportunities .

Looking Ahead

The success of this year’s event marks the beginning of what Colorado United hopes will become a lasting tradition within the club .

By creating spaces where young athletes can learn from inspiring women in the game, Colorado United continues its commitment to supporting girls’ soccer and developing confident, capable players who will lead both on and off the field.

We are excited to announce that Jeff Moore has been selected as the Colorado United Girls Developmental/Recreational Coach of the Year. This honor will be submitted to the Colorado Soccer Association, and he will be recognized at the CSA Awards Banquet in January.

I am a Colorado Native and grew up playing youth soccer here on the front range. I’ve played on some great teams with great coaches such as Tim Schultz, Chad Ashton, and many others. During my youth playing time here I was a part of a lot of great teams and achieved the Regional ODP Camp. Early in my youth I was the biggest fan of the Colorado Foxes which had some legendary players like our very own Rafa Amaya. Of which, I have his autograph on a vintage pennant circa 1995.

I was recruited by a few schools but chose to remain in CO and play at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs(UCCS) under coach Eddy Dietz. Here I accomplished school scoring records and helped our team achieve an RMAC playoff win.
Further, I played with a semi-professional team, The Colorado Springs Blizzard, which had been newly formed.

It was here in Colorado Springs that my coaching career was launched and I started with the Pride Soccer Club. I worked with a lot of great coaches, mentors and helped start the club's first youth development academy, Pride Soccer Academy (PSA) working with Sian Rodgers and other great development minded coaches. It’s here I started to develop my coaching style, how to coach high level players and the importance of developing young players.

I was fortunate to have worked with some high level teams and players here taking a top-14 girls team to the Dallas Showcase where we lost in PK’s.

I was also invited to coach the newly formed Colorado Springs Sabers, the semi-professional women's team along with coach Erik Oman working with some of the best women athletes in the area. The Sabers, its players and connections helped create the women’s soccer program at UCCS with Nicole Ridenour, a player from the Sabers and then ultimately with Sian Hudson/Rodgers. My playing career was cut short and life forever changed after a serious accident in the mountains. I was a ski instructor at Vail returning home to Breckenridge when I decided to help recover someone out of the ditch and in doing so was hit directly as a pedestrian by another vehicle sliding off the road.

After 14 Surgeries and 6+ months in the hospital it was clear playing wouldn’t be possible at the same level.

After many months of recovery and rehab I shifted my focus to pursuing a career as a soccer coach. First in working with the Colorado Storm soccer club for a number of years. During this time I was hired as the Conifer High School Boys’ and Girls' Varsity coach where I led each team each through a single season before eventually moving to Littleton United. Colorado United’s development methodology and culture aligned with me and my endeavors. Now coaching here over 10 years, it's where I’ve found a home and earned my highest coaching accolades and national licenses.
I currently hold a USSF “B” license and the United Soccer Coaches (formerly, NSCAA) “Premier” license.

I’ve been coaching now for over 20 years. I’ve had a lot of great experiences and have had the privilege to work with a lot of great teams and players. From the semi-professional level, taking an ECNL team to Surf Cup, to high school and the U8,9 & 10 development programs. Through all that, I’ve loved working with the youth development programs. They are fundamental ages where what the players learn are building blocks for their future and crucial to that success.

It’s where I am currently at and have been working with the Copa Jrs girls program and the Copa Elite teams.

As coaches we are teachers and mentors to these young players. While we have them as players, we have a responsibility to help guide them through life, using the game as the vehicle to teach and give them the freedom to explore, make mistakes and solve problems. If we do this well, we will have happy players, good players and good people.

I’ve really valued my time with Colorado United — the sharp soccer minds, the great leadership, and above all, the good people.

We are thrilled to share that Amy has been honored as the Colorado United Girls Developmental/Recreational Coach of the Year. This prestigious recognition will be submitted to the Colorado Soccer Association, and she will be celebrated at the CSA Awards Banquet in January.

A heartfelt thank you to Coach Amy for her unwavering dedication and valuable contributions to our club. Congratulations on this well-deserved achievement!

I started coaching soccer in 2021 when my son, Oscar, was 4½ years old and just starting his soccer journey. We joined Colorado United’s Lollipops program in 2022, and I’ve been coaching ever since! I feel truly blessed to have coached many of the same boys for several years, watching them grow not only as players but as teammates and friends. It’s an honor that many of their friends have also requested me as their coach, and a joy to see our little soccer family expand each season.

As a former high school volleyball athlete and youth basketball coach, I’ve learned the ins and outs of soccer right alongside my players, deepening our understanding of the game together. We’ve taken on the challenge of playing up an age group for the past few seasons and I’m so proud of how the boys have risen to every occasion. I truly believe coaching youth sports goes beyond the field or court; it’s an opportunity to help my athletes learn respect, discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. Watching these boys excel on and off the field has been a great honor and an extremely rewarding experience. Here's to next season!

Golf for Good 2025

Inaugural "Golf for Good" a Huge Success

The Lone Tree Golf Club was alive with energy and community spirit during our recent fundraising event, bringing together over 75 golfers and 25 dedicated staff members for a day of fun, competition, and giving back. The beautiful course provided the perfect backdrop for what turned out to be a memorable experience for everyone involved.

Thanks to the generosity of all participants and sponsors, we were able to raise over $11,000 in support of Colorado United’s Outreach & Scholarship programs. This vital funding helps kids in Littleton and nearby neighborhoods gain access to the Beautiful Game, regardless of their financial circumstances, opening doors to new opportunities and experiences through soccer.

We also want to recognize the incredible support from our sponsors—Capelli, Freddy’s, 7 Brew, Backswing Events, Lone Tree Golf Course, and many others—whose contributions helped make this event a success. Their partnership allowed us to create a day filled with excitement and community connection.

Friday Night Lollipops Was a Massive Success

This year’s Friday Night Lollipops truly blew us away. We’re so thrilled with how everything turned out for our first-ever Friday night program — it popped off in the best way possible. We had an incredible turnout, with 72 families participating and the kiddos having an absolute blast. The energy, smiles, and fun vibes made the nights unforgettable for everyone involved.

A huge thank you to all the families who joined us and made the evening so special. Your support and enthusiasm mean the world to us, and we’re already looking forward to hosting another round in the spring.

2014B Gold - Rapids Classic Champs

2014B Gold Claim Rapids Classic Championship in Thrilling Fashion

The 2014B Gold team wrapped up their preseason Rapids Classic tournament in unforgettable style, showing grit, growth, and a whole lot of heart along the way.

The journey didn’t exactly start with fireworks. After looking sharp during summer kickarounds, the boys were humbled in a pre-tournament internal matchup, taking a heavy loss to our own 2014B Red squad. It was a reality check—but also the spark they needed.

Despite having two Saturday matches scheduled, the team opted to hold a Friday training session. Coach Morten turned it into a mix of fun competitions to lift morale, paired with a longer tactical focus session to reinforce new defensive adjustments. That balance proved critical.

From the opening whistle of the tournament, the boys executed the game plan with precision. The result: a 3–0 sweep through the group stage in great competitive matchups that yielded 2 clean sheets and a total of 28 out of 30 points. Impressively, this was achieved by rotating positions, playing for development, and keeping a keen eye on growth rather than chasing single victories.

Game one was particularly special. Facing off against 2 former United teammates now playing with the Colorado Ice, the match had a friendly, reunion-like feel. To top it off, one of the dads presented United with a mini trophy after the game, an unforgettable moment of sportsmanship and community.

The championship final had all the drama anyone could ask for. Playing against a strong Borussia Dortmund International Academy team (BVB Puma) from the Springs, United got up 1-0, but could not get that second goal. Instead BVB Puma equalized with 15 min to go and it came down to penalties.

As part of the pre-final huddle, the boys had been told they had nothing to be nervous about. They had already proved they are a great team and delivered strong performances. Now it was simply time to go out and enjoy the opportunity of playing a final and showing the opponent who wanted it more, while sticking to the overall master plan that had proven successful. With PKs coming up, it was back to nerves, though. Missing the first 2 PKs while BVB Puma scored on theirs, the Championship looked out of reach. But in the end, after 9 of 10 kicks, it was tied, leaving United with one final shot for glory. Nerves of steel, the ball went i,n and the title was claimed.

What followed? Pure joy. The celebration was wild—like they had just lifted the Champions League trophy.

As a club, we emphasize development first and trust the results will follow. This championship embodied that philosophy: a young team responding to setbacks, committing to improvement, and ultimately earning a well-deserved reward.

Africa - Morning Star Center

Colorado United donates over 20 uniforms to Morning Star Center in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

"Malachi and Micah Kabeya, brothers and Colorado United players, recently traveled to serve in the Democratic Republic of Congo with Morning Star Center , a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing hope in the heart of Africa through education, healthcare, social assistance, and community outreach.

With the generous donation of over 20 uniform kits from Colorado United, Malachi & Micah were able to organize a new local team and plan games that brought joy to many children and orphans living in underserved communities of Kinshasa, DR Congo. The excitement and pride on each child’s face as they received a brand-new uniform were truly priceless. Almost immediately, neighborhood games commenced, and fun was had by all on and off the pitch.

For many of these children, it wasn’t just about playing the sport they love; it was about being seen, valued, and uplifted. Wearing new gear gave them confidence and a sense of belonging. We extend a heartfelt thanks to Colorado United for making such a meaningful impact and look forward to returning to DR Congo next year to reach more children and communities."

2011G Gold & 2013G Bronze attended the 2025 USA CUP July 15th-20th in Blaine, MN

The 2011G Gold and 2013G Bronze teams attended the 2025 USACUP, July 15th-20th in Blaine, MN, where they had the opportunity to play alongside teams from all over the world. We shared the U of Minnesota dorms with Jamaica, Costa Rica, and three different clubs from Iceland. Both teams were placed against teams that would be higher than they normally play in spring league play. Outstanding battles, keeping all games within two points.

2011G Gold 0-1-2 in group play. Ended 0-1 in the quarterfinals that should've been 1-1, going to a shoot-out, but the ref called back a beautiful upper far corner 30-yard free kick goal by Madeline Fox to give the other team time to set up a wall.

2013G Bronze 0-1-2 with an intense battle against a team from Mexico ending in a tie 1-1, advancing them to the semi-finals, where we faced off against a much larger and more physical team that plays in the MN Regional division, ending in a 2-4 loss.

All around amazing performances by both teams!! Not only did the girls get some great competition, they got to interact with teams from around the world, music from other cultures on the bus rides and at the events, pin and jersey trading, socializing everywhere you go, and so much more. I always get asked why I would take a group to an event like this, and my simple answer is "Where else can you go to experience the world's game and see how other youth players play the game we all love!!"

Copa Director, Felipe, Travels to Germany and the Netherlands

Our Copa director, Felipe, was invited last month to work with players from the US, Europe, South America, Asia, and Africa in Germany and the Netherlands. He spent nine days at various professional training complexes, working with a U12-U13 team made up of players identified at Real Madrid clinics around the world.

Here is what Coach Felipe has to say about his experience.

"I had an amazing experience immersed in soccer for 9 days straight. I learned about the methodologies of various professional clubs and shared my own ideas as well. During this time, we played games against the FC Köln Academy and received training from their coaches. We also visited the training grounds of BVB Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach, both teams in the Bundesliga, where we participated in friendly matches. Additionally, we took a coaching course at the KNV Campus, which is the training ground for the Netherlands national team, and traveled to the PSV Eindhoven training ground for further training and games.

I had the opportunity to meet amazing people and coaches while immersing myself in the German and Dutch soccer culture. In the youth leagues, instead of throw-ins, players simply dribble or pass the ball to restart play, resulting in a quicker pace and keeping players engaged. Substitutions are made on the fly, similar to hockey. Additionally, at the end of every match, regardless of the score, teams finish with penalty kicks, where each member of the team takes one kick—sometimes even the coaches participate. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and I am excited to apply everything I've learned with our Colorado United players."

US Youth Soccer Announces Winner of the 2025 William J. "Billy" Goaziou Scholarship

We want to extend our congratulations to Sofia for winning the 2025 William J. "Billy" Goaziou Scholarship. Sofia has been a valued member of our club for eight years, and she is an outstanding soccer player. Her sister also plays for the club, and we truly enjoy having this family as part of United for so many years. Below, you'll find more information about Sofia and the scholarship she received.

Millner Calvo graduated Littleton High School in Colorado first in her class and will attend Cornell University this fall. She was a member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of her senior class.

Her extensive list of extracurricular activities includes Littleton's Key Club, Mathletes, Technology Student Association, Mock Trial Club and Band. Millner Calvo also played varsity soccer for three years and was team captain during her senior year. Her club soccer endeavors spanned eight years with Colorado United playing in the Colorado Soccer Association's Advanced League.

Millner Calvo also spent numerous hours volunteering in her community, whether with Colorado Feeding Kids, Project C.U.R.E, Passion Project, Valverde Elementary or as a coach for Lollipops youth soccer.

William J. “Billy” Goaziou was involved in soccer as a coach and an administrator for more than 25 years. He served as treasurer of US Youth Soccer and the Florida Youth Soccer Association, as well as chairman of the US Youth Soccer Budget and Olympic Development Program Committees. Bill also took office as U.S. Soccer Federation’s Treasurer in 1994, and was re- elected three times (in 1998, 2000 and 2004). Beyond the soccer world, Goaziou served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 2006, US Youth Soccer renamed the 14-and-Under Boys US Youth Soccer National Championship Cup in honor of Billy Goaziou. To further honor Billy, the US Youth Soccer Foundation has established scholarships in his memory for all that he has done for US Youth Soccer and soccer in the United States. The basis for awarding of the scholarships will be community service and giving back to the game.

Morghan Callis makes U.S. U14 Girls Regional Mini-Camp Roster

We’re excited to share some fantastic news.

U.S. Soccer is kicking off its third and final regional mini-camp of 2025 as part of the Under-14 Girls’ Talent Identification Program. From April 17-21, Austin, Texas, will welcome 80 talented players, all born in 2011 from the Central Region. We’re especially proud to announce that our very own Morghan Callis has been selected to participate.

The camp will be led by the amazing Nicole Lukic, U.S. Soccer's Director of Talent Identification, along with Lindsay Basalyga, the Central Talent ID Manager, and Illeana Moschos, the South Talent ID Manager. They will work with nine fantastic female coaches, including a goalkeeper coach, all part of the Women’s Youth National Team Scouting Network. These 80 players come from various states, including Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin.

Trip Highlight of the Season:

Colorado United 08 EA vs Las Vegas teams lost both games but competed in both games, creating scoring opportunities, played well in all three lines and team has room to improve in all areas.

It is early in the season to make predictions but 08EA team has a solid team of players who want to work hard, are committed, work as a team and all complement each other like brothers. The boys are respectful and enjoy every minute they train or play in games

Coaches notes :
Austin Dempsey is a player who represents a Colorado United player. He shows up to all training sessions, gives 100% in training and games.

Austin is technically & tactically sound, keeps the team shape defensively, he's a leader who communicates to organize and keep team as a unit, and he wins most of his individual battles.

10 days ago Austin represented the Colorado ODP team in Arizona, and last month in the EA games in Las Vegas he was very consistent playing simple 2/3 touches, reading the game, winning most of his individual battles, while also collectively keeping shape with his teammates 90% of the time.

Colorado United had a fantastic weekend. We have several teams to celebrate.

State Cup Champions: Our 2010G Academy Gray coached by Head Coach Luke Baker - assisted by Brad Couse - defeated Albion SC-Denver 5-1 to claim the title.

Presidents Cup Champions: Our 2009G Academy Blue coached by Chris Smith defeated Albion SC-Boulder County 3-2 and our 2011G Academy Blue coached by Marcus Narvaez defeated Westy SC 3-0 in PKs.

Well done to all the champions for bringing home some well-deserved hardware and for qualifying for the USYS Far West Regionals in Boise, ID next June.

We couldn't be more proud of all our United players. Well done, and we can't wait to watch what the rest of the season brings.

Michael Posen (Head of Coaching/TOPS Director) was selected to be the US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer Representative for the West Region. US Youth Soccer TOPSoccer ( T he O utreach P rogram for Soccer ) is a recreational sports program for children and adults with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities offered only through local US Youth Soccer-affiliated soccer clubs. TOPSoccer provides people with diverse abilities an opportunity to play soccer in a structured environment that is safe, fun, supportive, and inclusive. He will be serving 16 states from Alaska to Wyoming. This is a huge honor for Michael and the club. Congrats!

Greetings Colorado United Families,

It is with great pleasure, and also sadness, that I write this message regarding staffing changes within the club.

Sadly our Competitive Girls Program Director, Stu Sinclair, is leaving us at the end of this weekend. During his two spells with us, Stu has overseen many of our most successful programs as our Recreational Director, such as the school outreach program, TOPSoccer, HRSA, and managing winter and summer camps. He eventually moved into the Competitive side where he has overseen the Girl's program including the successful transition into the DPL and now the Girls Academy league. He also served on the Recreational Committee at CSA. His contribution as a highly respected team member, mentor, and friend will be greatly missed - not least his sense of humor.

Throughout his tenure, Stu always approached everything with a smile, a positive attitude, and brought an unwavering professional perspective. Stu is moving into a new role with Skyline SA as Director of Operations. He will be greatly missed, however, we truly wish him the best in his new role.

As sad as it is to lose an esteemed employee, change provides opportunities. We are excited to welcome Rafa Amaya to the club and also the return of Tito Ward in a full-time capacity.

Rafa has long stood in Colorado soccer circles for many years. He has played & coached professionally, served as a U.S. Youth National Team assistant & scout, a U.S. Soccer coaching educator, and a H.S. Director with Colorado Storm.

Rafa will be the U15-19 Boys & Girls Director of Coaching. This role will include coaching an EA and GA team while overseeing the Competitive teams below the Academy level and supporting the team head coaches. Rafa’s experience and expertise will be instrumental in helping our players pursue playing soccer in college and developing our competitive coaching staff.

Tito Ward is returning to the club in a full-time position as the Boys Transition Director. We are excited to have Tito back involved in a more senior role. Tito will oversee the U10 to U11 and U12 to U13 key transitions while managing the U11 & U12 age groups. Tito will also continue to coach EA and/or Academy Blue teams. His expertise and knowledge will be a huge asset to the club.

As part of this restructuring, John Senkosky will be adding the Girls Transition Director role to his other responsibilities within the club. John is excited to work within these key age groups and help foster the development and passion of these players who are the future of Colorado United. Katy Sackett will assist John and continue her awesome work within the club.

Rounding out the transition, Michael Fall will transition from Boys Program Director to U11-14 Director of Coaching. In this new role Michael will be overseeing both the Boys and Girls U11-14 programs with a special focus on the U13-14 age groups.

Barry Mantle will continue in his role as Head of Coaching-Competitive overseeing the entire Competitive program with a focus on coaching development & support and the finalization & implementation of our Colorado United Game Model and Methodology. Seth Trembly and Herman Sullivan have already begun the transition into their respective Boys Academy Director and Girls Academy Director roles where Seth will oversee the EA & Academy Blue boys teams and Herman the GA & Academy Blue girls teams.

We believe that this new structure of the Competitive program will provide a more unified experience for our players while allowing our Directors to oversee the age groups where they excel the most. The future is very bright for the Colorado United Competitive program and players.

As a club, we had the opportunity to send and donate some soccer balls to a fantastic program. Our own Janie (09 Girls Academy DPL) and her mother, Anne spent two weeks in Ipalamwa, Tanzania, with a nonprofit called Global Volunteers. Amazing program!

Apparently, "When the real soccer balls arrived, it was like Taylor Swift making an appearance. Absolutely precious. We made over 200 kids incredibly happy." The kids in the village would come to find Janie every day and ask, "Janie! Janie! Futball?" It was adorable!

Little Raven Goals

At the beginning of the school year, LPS opened its newest school, Little Raven Elementary, combining the students from Ralph Moody and East. As part of the new facility, LPS added a new turf field. However, the beautiful field had no goals. Colorado United stepped in and donated brand new goals and nets for our friends at Little Raven. LPS and Colorado United have a long standing strategic partnership and this is one of the small ways that we give back to the LPS students. We hope that it provides some fun and a great environment for the Little Raven Community.

Kula Sports Performance Grand Re-Opening

Kula Sports Performance is a training system designed for all athletes. They use scientific principles and proven methods designed to improve athleticism, develop speed, agility, explosive power, coordination, and strength.

We are so excited to continue this partnership for our teams to make them stronger and add to their off-field training. Our GA and EA teams do special trainings with Kula once a week. The teams love it and it makes them more well-rounded athletes.
