U11 Tryout - Frequently Asked Questions

How are players placed on teams?

Players are evaluated at tryouts and are offered positions on teams based on ability.

How do teams get placed?

The Director of Coaching in the age group contacts Colorado Youth Soccer to request placement of the team. The goal is to place teams in a level of play that will challenge them while allowing them to compete.

What do White, Blue, Red, Gold, Silver and Bronze mean when being placed?

White, Blue, Red, Gold, Silver and Bronze are the levels of our competitive teams.

What is the cost and tournament commitment?

For the 2009/2010 year, the seasonal club fee includes Colorado United dues, CYS fees, and Referee fees. This is billed twice a year, fall season and spring season. These do not include indoor fees, tournament fees or expenses, uniforms or other team expenses. Required uniform cost is approximately $285 for White/Blue teams and $180 for Red/Gold teams (warm-ups optional).

- White Team: 1st team TBA per season and could have 1 or 2 out of state tournaments and 3 - 4 tournaments per calendar year. ($280 due at team formation meeting. $155 - about 1/4 of the club fee. $125 - team expense account which includes two pre season tournaments.)

- Blue: 2nd team TBA per season and could have 1 out of state tournament and 3 - 4 tournaments per calendar year. ($270 due at team formation meeting. $145 - about 1/4 of the club fee.$125 - team expense account which includes two pre season tournaments.)

- Red: 3rd team TBA per season and no out of state tournaments and 2 - 3 tournaments per calendar year. ($190 due at team formation meeting. $115 - about 1/4 of the club fee. $75 - team expense account which includes one pre season tournament.)

- All Other Teams TBA per season and no out of state tournaments 2 - 3 tournaments per calendar year. ($185 due at team formation meeting. $110 - about 1/4 of the club fee. $75 - team expense account which includes one pre season tournament.)

How soon will we know if we made a team or not?

Players will be notified within 72 hours of the end of the second night of tryouts.

How many practices will we have and where will they be?

Colorado United competitive teams practice 3 times a week which is a similar commitment to a U10 Option 1 team with 3 sessions a week and 4 with a game. Practice will start at the beginning of August for the fall ‘09 season. Practice location/times are decided by the U11 Program Director. Cornerstone Park is the main training field for competitive teams but periodically there may be training at other locations in the Littleton area.

How much commitment is involved?

Every player is expected to participate in all team activities, including practices, games and tournaments.

When does the season begin?

The season begins with the first practice the beginning of August. There will be at least one pre-season tournament before the start of fall 2009 league. Fall league play typically begins on near the end of August. The season will continue through mid- November.

How can I offset the cost of the program?

Fundraising is available to help offset the cost of being in the competitive program. Bingo, Grocery Certificate program, and the GL Scripts are just some examples. Colorado United also offers a payment plan and scholarships for those who qualify. All this information will be explained in detail during the U11 transition meeting on April 23rd, 2009.

How can my U10 player be seen by coaching staff before tryouts?

Colorado United offers “kickarounds” for our U10 players before tryouts. Tryouts will be run by the Academy staff who has been observing players throughout the season. Kickarounds will be held on Friday May 7th & Friday May 14th at Cornerstone Park. The boys will run from 4:30 - 5:45 PM and the girls will run from 6:00 - 7:15 PM.

U11 Tryout Guide
Minimize

The following information will help you during the tryout process with Colorado United. The U10/11 Transition Coordinator, Tito Ward, is responsible for the preparation and running of the U11tryouts. The tryout process is only the starting point for your child's competitive soccer experience.  Even though every effort is made to place players on appropriate teams, players can be misplaced during the tryouts. To make sure players do get the best soccer experience, movement does continue throughout the entire U11 year.

Here is what your child can expect at the U11 team formations:

-         The U11 team formations are done over a two night tryout.  All players are expected to attend both nights of tryouts unless they are contacted and told otherwise. Players must let their evaluating coach know if they will be unable to attend the second night of tryouts.

-         Your child will check in and receive a number for identification and evaluation purposes.

-         Calls to offer players a position on a team will be made during the evening after tryouts. (Starting with the White team) ***Not all players will receive a call on the first evening.

-         All players will receive a phone call within 72 hours of the end of tryouts.

-         Once contacted, you will have 24 hours to contact your coach and commit to playing on that team.  If you do not commit within those 24 hours, your spot will be offered to another player.

-         Once you have committed to a team, you will not be moved down to a lower team during the tryout process. Players may move up as players turn down opportunities on teams above your placement. It also important to note that movement will take place both up and down throughout the fall and spring seasons as players progress in the development process.
