U15 Timeline:
Focus on High School class rank
Attend camps and play on a club team.
Complete college questionnaires expressing your interest in their soccer program.
U16 Timeline:
Continue to focus on your academics and class rank.
Start preparing for your SAT & ACT.
Take practice exams of the SAT & ACT.
Begin e-mailing college coaches to introduce yourself.
Attend college showcase camps.
U17 Timeline:
Continue to focus on your academics and class rank.
You will begin obtaining general letters of correspondences from coaches.
VERY IMPORTANT: Coaches, who have shown interest, stay in close contact with them.
Begin visiting schools of interest.
Take your SAT & ACT.
Register with the NCAA Initial Eligibility Clearinghouse here College coaches will be allowed to contact you directly in person or over the phone in late spring, early summer.
RETAKE you SAT & ACT.
U18 Timeline:
Take official visit if you’re offered.
Begin applying to schools in the FALL.
Continue to keep contact with all of your college coaches you’ve been interested in.
Make your decision and sign a National Letter of Intent to that school.
Then have a great time your senior year of high school.
Questions to Ask
...when looking at college athletic programs.
Ask the Coach and/or Recruiter:
What position do you want me to play. And how many others are you recruiting for the same position?
How do practices coincide with the classes I will be taking?
What is expected of players during the off-season?
What will happen to my scholarship if I am injured of ineligible to participate?
Are there services in case I am having difficulty keeping up with my courses and need extra support?
Are all injuries handled by team insurance?
Does an athletic trainer travel with the team?
Ask the Players:
What does your typical daily schedule look like?
What is the general attitude of the professors toward athletes?
What is the attitude of non-athletes?
Are the coaches available to help if you are having academic problems?
Are there mandatory study hours? If so, what are they?
Ask Yourself:
Would I attend this school if I had no intentions of competing?
Do the coaches and players seem genuinely concerned about each other?
Will I be successful at this school academically? Athletically? Personally?
Do the coaches seen concerned about academics?
How does this school compare to others I have visited?
